Der Star der Show bleibt unsicht­bar. Alfons heißt er und ist ein Floh. Er stand 19 Jahre lang im Mittel­punkt der skur­ri­len Thea­ter­abende von Flohol­oge Profes­sor Cratz­leigh (Peter Freeman *20.07.1938). Alle drei, Floh, Profes­sor und Freeman, sind schon lange in Rente. Sie traten in Öster­reich, der Schweiz, in England und Deutsch­land auf. Free­mann: „It was a child­hood dream that I simply had to try out and I like to think not without a small measure of success.“ Die Thea­ter­jahre des briti­schen Comedy Actors und Humo­ris­ten (1992–2011) liegen nun schon eine Weile zurück, doch der Floh­zir­kus, das Kostüm des Profes­sors, die Texte, Fotos, seine Notizen und Programm­hefte hat er aufbewahrt.

Peter Freeman übergab sein ‘Thea­ter­le­ben´ dem Deut­schen Kabarett­archiv am Mitt­woch, 9. Novem­ber 2022, in Beglei­tung seiner Lebens­ge­fähr­tin Barbara. Er schrieb uns am nächs­ten Tag:

Dear Mainzer Team,
(that is those of you Barbara and I had the plea­sure of meeting yester­day), thank you so much for the marve­lously warm welcome. ‘Your’ Archive is really awesome, a perfect example of what can be achie­ved with lots of love and perfec­tion. Thank you so much for taking the time  to show us around, we enjoyed every minute.

It is an honour to be able to give Alfons such a marvell­ous new home, and I mean that very sincerely.

Der Floh­zir­kus war das erste und eines der erfolg­reichs­ten von insge­samt fünf Program­men von Freeman. „And finally ‘ The Flea Circus´! My first show, which I perfor­med over one thousand times in nine­teen years, is still regarded as an amusing and unusual show. Yes! Ist was fun!“

Die phäno­me­no­lo­gi­sche Frage nach Schein oder Sein des Zirkus­flohs erschien in jeder Show beinahe neben­säch­lich. Free­mans Geschich­ten, vorge­tra­gen in deutsch-engli­schem Plau­der­ton, durch­setzt mit typisch schwar­zem, briti­schem Humor, seine Inter­ak­tion mit dem Publi­kum und die wunder­bar gestal­tete Illu­sion eines Floh­zir­kus machte die Faszi­na­tion seiner Darbie­tung aus.
